Abstract Contrary to what was believed until 10 years ago, almost all bacteria contain proteins on the inside that form filaments and the filament-forming proteins are homologous to their eukaryotic counterparts in all non-bacterial cells. The so-called bacterial cytoskeleton plays important roles in cell division, DNA segregation and cell shape determination and hence plays fundamental roles in their life cycle. I will present an overview of the structure and function of the Bacterial Cytoskeleton.
