Mt Erebus, Antarctica; Understanding the world's southernmost active volcano

Abstract There are three ways to study a volcano; from the surface you can study its gas emission, with analytical tools you can study fossilized melt pocket and in the laboratory you can recreate the molten rock to simulate the interior of the volcano. The best approach of course is to do all of the above. I'll present results from all three methods and explain how by integrating these techniques a broad view of the plumbing system feeding Erebus lava lake can emerge.
