Welcome to the DCSA Green Committee - let’s make Darwin a greener College, with an ambitious agenda towards sustainable practices!
Our group has regular meetings to maintain a beautiful, self-organised student vegetable garden located next to the river, or organise events such as green bar or movie nights. Three of our committee members recently went to COP21 in Paris, in order to advertise the One World Challenge 2016 (www.oneworldchallenge.me), an international competition for sustainable lifestyles between students, which we later organised and hosted from Cambridge. This became a big success, with over 500 participants out of more than 20 countries. Moreover, one of our most important mid-range goals is the implementation of a working composting policy in Darwin.
The College assesses its investment strategy for social and environmental responsibility in response to the university's 2016 investment impact assessment, and our students liaise with international sustainability movements in this regard. We, the DCSA Green Committee, support and push the College for promoting these and further initiatives. On this note, Darwin catering serves delicious vegetarian meals in the dining hall, and already 25% of our students regularly opt for it.
